I think this is heavy snow and not sleet. It looks like little balls on compacted snow. But how can that be when we are not in a higher location. Places like Denver will get snow balls -- peanuts
I believe this shows snow grains. Here in PA, these are more rare than sleet or snow, but they do happen. The reason that they look so large in the photos at the end is because of the flash reflecting off of them. Whether snow grains or sleet, they never get bigger than BB size. Sometimes in winter it can be hard to tell the difference between hail and sleet, though if its bigger than a BB, it has to be sleet. -- weathermatrix
