Hurricane Hugo 1989 - Devising a Plan
Hurricane Hugo 1989 - Devising a Plan
Description: This is one of two photos with the tree successfully falling to the ground. The big problem was a tall tree that had been bent over our house. If it fell, it could cut the house in two. Farmer Roy who lived down the road came with his tractor and he and Mom and Dad hooked up a pulley system to pull the tree back away from the house, then cut it down. It was a dangerous ploy, but it worked. Hurricane Hugo devastated the northern foothills of North Carolina on September 22, 1989. Here you see damage at my house in Boomer, NC.
