Strange Cloud Over State College
Strange Cloud Over State College
Description: I took this photo with my cell phone. I was walking in Fairbrook Park, Pennsylvania Furnace, PA 16865, and I was watching this cloud. I saw what I thought could be a funnel cloud develop, and I, also, saw a dark column which I thought might be rain. I took this photo at 2:52 p.m. on Sunday, July 26 looking northeast toward State College. My husband and I are curious about what I saw. Thank you for your time! Jo Dreibelbis

Hi Jo Unfortunately it is impossible to determine whether or not a still photo shows a funnel cloud - I really need a video or timelapse to see the rotation and upward movement of the clouds to be sure. I believe most likely what you have captured was the inflow tail... humid air continually reforms a tail shaped cloud as it flows into the storm. I can`t rule out that it wasn`t a funnel cloud however. See also my pics of same cloud from across town: -- weathermatrix
