Lightning Taper
Lightning Taper
Description: I wanted to show everyone just how wide lightning can be. Using adobe photoshop, I was able to fix this strike showing just how wide the strike can be. This strike is about 1/2 mile from my location. I zoomed in on strike and counted the treesat base as best I could. I think 40 to 60 feet wide at base or more.

You could continue to brighten that image in Photoshop to adjust it to any width. The actual channel width of lightning is about half an inch http://www.ucar.edu/communications/factsheets/Lightning.html our eyes and the camera make it bigger because they are unable to perceive the brightness of it. The closest lightning strike I`ve ever seen on film is this one: http://imgur.com/2nx93.jpg -- weathermatrix
