Description: Mediterranean Sea Mar. 30, 2005 Clouds of water vapor rush over the swept-wings of an F14B Tomcat, assigned to the Swordsmen of Fighter Squadron Three Two VF-32, while performing a high-speed flyby of USS Harry S. Truman CVN 75 during an air power demonstration performed by Carrier Air Wing Three CVW3. The Harry S. What you see is water vapor condensating on the wings of airplanes due to the very low pressure the wing produces. Typically you see wingtip vortices forming due to the low pressure developing in the vortices as it trails off the wing. In the picture, the airplane is most likely going near super sonic and producing intense lift on the upper side of the wing, thus the pressure on the upper surface of the wing is lowering to the point where condensation occurs. -- navy

Keep in the mind the equation.. PV equals nRT. If the pressure lowers the temp lowers thus the temp lowers to the point where condensation occurs... -- margusity
