AR Wind Farm - Lightning Conductor
AR Wind Farm - Lightning Conductor
Description: This lightning cable stretches from end to end inside the turbine blades. It transmits the lightning to a Peak Current Sensor which is a credit-card like device that records the amperage of the strike and can be scanned by a computer. Ron, Becky and I toured the Alleghany Ridge Wind Farm this Sunday. It consists of 30 newly-installed wind turbines - and 30 more to come - on top of the Alleghany Mountain ridges southwest of Altoona, PA, owned and operated by GAMESA Energy.
