Lenticular Clouds at Mount Mitchell 1992 Remaster
Lenticular Clouds at Mount Mitchell 1992 Remaster
Description: 2012 REMASTER FROM 35MM FILM SCAN. ORIGINAL: http://ow.ly/bBEpU Lenticular wave clouds are formed when air moves up over mountains, cooling sufficiently for condensation to take place. Someimtes Multiple lenticular wave clouds like this are formed downstream from the original cloud. Note that the cloud appears to be sitting still but actually the air continually forms the cloud as it flows over the mountain. This picture was taken from the parking lot of Mount Mitchell, NC, the highest point east of the Mississippi at 6684 feet. We are looking northeasterly I believe. This is the second photo I took of these lenticular wave clouds. These type of wave clouds were not uncommon in the mountains of NC, but these are certainly the most beautiful I have seen. I am unsure of the date this photo was taken but I`m guessing March 1992. This is one of the top 5 photos that I have ever taken, IMHO.
