Tennessee Flooding
Tennessee Flooding
Description: Photos provided by David Nutting. The white object in front of the red barn is the top of a large SUV. They were taken on Sat., May 1, 2010 in Tipton, County, TN. I had 10.5 inches of rain at my house - 35 miles NE of downtown Memphis TN - from about 3 AM to 10 AM - most was before 6 AM. I could not get out of my street to answer a fire call from a lightning strike on a house trailer. These photos were taken by our Assistant Fire Chief of our volunteer fire dept., while some of our trucks were out looking for people who might need rescuing. I didn`t get to the station to do the driving around for 4 more hours. Many of the roads were invisible, and we dared not even take the - relatively tall - fire trucks down them. The middle two photos are from the same location- a house and a barn - the horses escaped to higher ground and when the waters started to recede across the highway in front of the house and barn, they kept trying to get back to their still-flooded barn and so were a danger on the roadway.
